The Kosovo Landfill Management Company is a joint stock company (abbreviated as KMDK JSC) established under the Law on Public Enterprises. KMDK JSC is registered with the Business Registration Agency as a Joint Stock Company with 100% ownership of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo, in accordance with Law No. 06/L-016 on Commercial Companies. The company carries out its activities in accordance with the applicable legal provisions, internal legal acts and strategic documents.
The company was established in 2005 through cooperation between local and international institutions, while the landfills were built by the European Agency for Reconstruction (EAR). The Kosovo Landfill Management Company is the central company for landfill management at the national level.
The operation and management of sanitary landfills are closely linked to the respect and implementation of environmental rules and criteria, as foreseen in the relevant legal provisions. The company aims to continuously advance environmental care in every aspect of its operations.
Based on Law No. 03/L-087 on Public Enterprises, the Landfill Management Company in Kosovo (LMC JSC) is a legalized and licensed company for the management of regional sanitary landfills of municipal waste in the Republic of Kosovo, incorporated and registered as a Joint Stock Company in accordance with Law No. 02/L-123 on Commercial Companies. The institutional structure, role and responsibilities of relevant institutions in the management of MSW in Kosovo are determined by the legislation in force, based on which the Board of Directors has been appointed by the Government of Kosovo.
The Ministry of Economic Development (MED), based on the Law on Public Enterprises (NO. 03/L-087) through the Policy and Monitoring Unit, supervises the business of public enterprises owned by the Government of the Republic of Kosovo and ensures their monitoring and transparency. This law establishes the framework for the exercise of property rights in public enterprises and regulates the corporate governance of these enterprises.
The company was established by local and international institutions, a donation provided by the European Agency for Reconstruction and Development (EAR). KMDK manages these assets in accordance with applicable legislation and established standards with the aim of preserving the environment and increasing the value of the company’s assets.
